I believe that Cyrus Habib has a point, why should we not have brail on money for the blind to be able to read.  They have to depend so  much on others when it comes to this.  We take for granted that we visually see what we are spending but so many get taken advantage of and robbed.  It would give them a chance to become more self sufficient and feel proud of themselves. 

Others have said that it is a waste of time, but how can helping someone to become more independent. It doesn't. 

Carol kills lizzie

How do you feel about this scene.  I was shocked, I just did not see it coming.  It makes you think though with children brought up in an environment how it will change their core values and some completely fly off the deep end as Lizzie did.  She wanted to hold ontot he idea that the walkers were people still.  That deep down inside a part of them was still there.  With this she kills her sister to prove to carol that she is right. 

She has also developed anti social behavior along with masochistic tendencies.  I am curios for those that watch the show what you think.  Do you feel carol did the right thing or do you think that Lizzie could ahve had a chance to come around.

In Praise of chain stores pages 421-423

Virginia Postrel argues in favor of chain stores.  She expresses the economic and social benefits.  I agree with her.  A mini mall brings not only employment but also tourists.  Its a place were families can spend a day walking together, having lunch in the food court.  

Life imitating art

I thought that this would be a nice light blog a bit of fun....I am sure most are familiar with the Disney animated feature "The Lion King." 

The three sets of photos show real and animated.  Simba and mufasa , pride rock,. and timone and pumba.  Yes I know all the characters laughing.  I wonder though the one with timone and pumba if that is photo shopped.  The other two seem possible.  What do you think.

Drug testing needs improvement, not clearinghouse page 346-348

From what I gathered from the article. They are wanting to find a positive way to regulate and control drug abuse in truck drivers.  "Operation Trucker Check" was conducted in Oregon by the highway patrol.  One out of every ten came up positive for drugs in their system.   The problem with  these tests is that they are costly and for those truckers that are clean are not given incentives to participate.  Truckers are  pushed to meet deadlines so they have to manipulate the books for 24 hour drives and use than narcotics to keep them alert.  The DOT has a long road ahead of them trying to keep drugs off the road. 

Marijuana end prohibition yes or no

The new prohibition, Marijuana is one of the hot topics.  Legalized in just a few states we strive to have it legalized through out the country.  Would this really be a bad thing. "Lost Memories" pages 104-111

The story of Yoshikazu and his struggle with Alzheimer's.  A disease that is one of several dementia disorders and one that can be the most debilitating.  Slowly loosing memories of loved ones, places in the past.  Than progressing to basic living not being able to brush your teeth or hair. Wash your hands or dress yourself. Than to the frightening not being able to eat, walk, talk.

This photo essay is an emotional tale of the authors grandfather.  In it you can see the struggles that face him on and every day basis and the love and respect that his grandson Kazuyoshi Ehara holds.

The effects that this disease can be a strain but as you can see in this tale they don't give up just care for him as only you can.

I had been a CNA for several years and I can say that dementia was were i wanted to be.  Everyday with them is an adventure. From listening to stories of fleeting memories. To a place were they were as a child sitting and playing dolls.  You don't fight the disease but make it a new life worth living for them as every day for them is a new day.

I can remember one resident, she had passed away and it devastated me; her name was Dorothy.  When i started working at the facility they had told me that she was one of the difficult cases.  She was would not get ready for breakfast or bath, rarely ate, and would be combative when you would try and help her.  I can remember going into her room and the first item i noticed was a doll. So adorable, she had him wrapped so and cradled in her rocking chair.  I just took the time to speak with her in that i found out that too her that was her baby alive and breathing.

The following days I observed the other care managers as they tried to care for Dorothy.  One factor that came in was the baby, her son.  At one point she was so worried about who is watching him, she didn't want strangers taking care of her son. What if they take him, hurt him, or lose him.  An emotion that is very natural to any parent.  The problem was this emotion was being ignored which than would account for her behavior.

The following week I had Dorothy on my shift.  I thought about this and chose to do things different. I started by changing her daily routine a bit. Coming in with a nice cup of coffee and two pieces of toast.  Than I asked her how her son was and if he was awake yet.  If he was if she would like me to watch him while she bathed for the day. Some days she would just have me put on a children s show for him.

his made a huge difference.  You see take time, they are still in there,just perceived in a different way.  My Dorothy passed away a year after I had met her, but in that time she became an important part in my life.  To this day when i think of her I get tears in my eyes than a smile thinking about her and her baby.

Society has evolved in which such an event causes minimal ridicule .

We have all come a long way from the " coming out of the closet" and the taboo of its a sin don't do that.  I myself support not only the decisions that these couples made but also the forum in which they did.  We are all about glitz and glammer in the US.

Danger is Their Middle Name page 166-170

A dynasty begins one warm California day when John Epper takes a job jumping a horse over a car.   From that point he was hooked; doing what came natural.  Years later its not uncommon to find an Epper on a Hollywood set.  So natural this family of stunt men and women; for years monopolizing the industry.

The story starts with a young Matt Epper looking down from the edge of the family house.  His mother encouraging him on.."jump jump, Matt! Come on! There's nothing to it! Just kick out your legs out and fly!"(167 joining the conversation " Danger is Their Middle Name")  I just could not imagine being that woman, normally you would discourage such behavior.  But this was the Eppers, the norm was definitely not conventional.

Going on with the article I found it interesting a bit exciting with the thought of such an exciting life.  Generations of a family living in a world of such adventure.  With movies such as romancing the stone and Pearl harbor as part of their resume.  

When we think of the movie industry and Hollywood the stunt men and women are not thought of as that of the actors they protect from harm.  I have a new appreciation for those men and women and now when watching a film I wait too see just who performed the stunts watching to see if it was an Epper.

I read my children a bed time story, tucked them in, and told them i loved them.  Looking at them as the lay there my angels, my blessings.

In some countries due to laws of only allowed one child per family, or the scrutiny of having a daughter such as china.  http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/abandoned-baby-rescued-from-toilet-pipe-in-china/1/273583.html  I am sure feel desperate, scared, and ashamed.  Do they have the options we do?

There have been some active changes that may help this issue.  In the US you can leave your child at a hospital, fire department, police station with no questions asked or repercussions.  Some argue that this is just an open invitation to irresponsible behavior were others feel i will help cut back on innocent lives being cut short or emaciated due to abandonment.


Jane is an inspiration and a very strong woman to take on such a responsibility at such a young age.  I want to think i have that strong character and if I found a baby that i would take him/her in as my own.  Saving her from the fate of most abandoned babies.

I am curious to know your reaction to the story of Jane and June.  How do you feel about the safe haven for babies to be left when not wanted.  It is something to think about.

The world of shadows

How is it that we can put such importance on the actions of a 19 year old boy that basically has not done anything really surprising.  He has basically grown up in the spot light.  Works constantly to support his family etc etc...it is not uncommon to see this in the news about a celebrity remember Brittany Spears, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and kesha.  The list can go on.  The obvious reasons are there.

What about little Dora.  Her sister had set the alarm early in the morning to commit this crime of such emotional hatred or was it? It was reported that the 14 year old sister, whom has been not named for obvious reasons had cooked dinner 6 nights in a row, and with every strike had said this "she was not thankful for what she had done".  Like in many single family homes the oldest has to grow up faster taking on more responsibility.

I am a single mother of 5 children.  I try to balance out her life giving her the freedoms of any 15 year old. In some cases though it is not possible.  Every situation is different and every child handles it differently so my question to you is:
  What brought on such violence? What was that breaking point that drove such a young child to commit such a violent crime.   Most important, why is it that a DUI from a celebrity  more news worthy.
